Get out of debt books

These days everyone wants to learn how to get out of debt and fast.  There are many personal finance books out there to choose from.  You could go into more debt just buying them all trying to find the perfect way to get rid of your debt problems.

You don’t need to read all the books, you only need one or two good ones and then get to work.  Reading the books won’t do you any good until you decide for yourself to take action on what you are reading.  The books will teach you shortcuts and proven methods for getting out of debt.  It’s then up to you to put those ideas to work.  You have to make the calls to your credit card companies and request they waive the late fees and lower your interest rates.

You have to make sure your credit report is accurate to make sure you are getting the best rates on your loans, mortgage and credit cards.

All that being said, there are two books that are making plenty of news right now about getting out of debt.  Those books are Debt Cures by Kevin Trudeau and The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.  Debt Cures is written by a convicted felon in Kevin Trudeau.  He was convicted in the early 1990s for fraud in larceny.  That doesn’t sound like the best resource for helping you get out of debt does it?  For most people no, for others, they might want to know more.

People make mistakes.  KT’s book is coming to Amazon in May 2008 so all the reviews you’ve read about him and his trying to sell you tons of other products when you call in to order Debt Cures you won’t have to deal with once Amazon starts selling it.

The Total Money Makeover is an inspirational book that shows you how to get out of credit card debt, mortgage debt, student loan debt and any other debt you may have.  It’s filled with stories of regular everyday folks who have used a debt snowball to eliminate their debts.

Debt Cures has shortcuts in it to help you deal with your creditors while Total Money Makeover provides a better financial picture for you once you go through the steps.

Both books I believe can help you get out of debt.  Debt Cures is good but probably not the best get out of debt book while I would say The Total Money Makeover is.
